Giant Kingsnorth plant energy in Kent is one of the two regimes screened in the competition for government funding worth potentially up to £ billion to install technology in its new coal-fired power station.
A consortium led by Iberdrola-owned Scottish Power is now the only candidate left in the competition.
E.on said Wednesday after delayed the construction of Kingsnorth last year, the market was still not conducive to the construction of the 1,600 MW and consequently, he withdrew.Mr. Paul Goldby, E.on UK Chief Executive, said: "it became clear that economic conditions are still not good for us to advance the project and, in short, we have no power on which build a demonstration of capture and storage of carbon."
Scottish Power said the consortium clings to the project and its engineering and design on the calendar.
A spokesman for the Department of energy and climate change said the Government was "naturally disappointed that E.on had decided of is [not] move forward" it added that it was not an agreement that Scottish Power would receive funding.
