New research has revealed that if the gas can be "cleaned" capture of carbon dioxide emissions and pumping underground, it would be a much cheaper option.

"Fuel costs represent a higher share of the costs of the system in scenarios with the use of current gas.""Our cost comparisons are therefore potentially sensitive to assumptions about price," said the ENA.

The world is currently in the midst of a surplus gas, due to a surge in 'shale' gas extracted from natural gas, and rocks that can be sent, rather than to rely on pipelines liquefied.
